A baker’s dozen

We have 13 grandchildren.—a baker’s dozen. Twelve have been born and one is in the oven.

Each and every one of these grandchildren is precious to us.  They make us happy.  They make us laugh, and cry, and worry, and look at the world in new ways…through their eyes. They make us feel deeply.  And this is something we like.

It seems so long ago that we were their age, but we both remember how we felt when we were young, what was important to us, what we liked, and how we knew more than most (but not all) adults thought we did.

Our grandchildren may not have the wisdom that comes from many years lived, but they have their youth. And with that youth, they have hopes and dreams, determination and time—endless time, or so it feels to them.  We remember this feeling.

Each grandchild is unique and different, and we are very proud of every one of them.

Here are our grandchildren from the oldest to the very tiniest….

1)  Ian, 18 years old:

2)  Marina, 17 years old:

3)  Adam, 15 years old:

4)  Stella, 14 years old:

5)  Soren, 14 years old:

6)  Ida, 13 years old:

7)  Alden: 11 years old:

8)  Sebastian, 11 years old:

9)  Wilder, 8 years old:

10)  Aryana, 2 years and 9 months old:

13)  Our tiniest, youngest grand baby, due on Halloween, or whenever he decides to make his grand entrance into the world:

A big part of our identity is being parents and grandparents.  Our children and grandchildren mean the world to us.  We treasure them.

Our job as grandparents is very simple and easy.  It is just to love each of these dear children that have entered our lives with all our hearts.
