Our final days in Death Valley

We have stayed in Death Valley 15 nights.  We can feel the end of the season is approaching.  We talk with Camp Hosts and visitors who are either already traveling north or will soon.  Like us.

We left our campground this morning and headed south to Wildrose Campground, some 60 miles (some difficult) closer to where we need to leave to get to our destination on the coast.

On the way we stopped at the Mosaic Canyon trail and walked two miles up this beautiful canyon.  The park service has built a road to the mouth of the canyon, which means that it is a popular tourist destination.

And the first mile was a nice tourist hike.  The rest was more strenuous, necessitating rock scrambling and walking along ridges.

We walked into the canyon 1.8 miles (total round trip 3.7) , with an elevation gain of 850 feet.

Then we drove to Wildrose Campground, a campground that doesn’t charge a fee and has been relatively empty both times we have been here.  We will get up early in the morning and drive to Montana de Oro.

Death Valley Totals:

Hiking Miles:  61
Elevation Gain:  9875 feet
Biking Miles:  90
Biking Gain:  6000 feet

And we danced!  Several times.  Right in front of our camper was a flat, sandy spot that worked pretty well as a dance floor.  We have external speakers on our camper, and when our end of the campground was empty, we danced and danced.  How cool is that?
