The weather forecast had turned bad, so after talking with
the camp host, we decided that we should head out of the mountains yesterday
and get to a lower altitude. Rain was
predicted, and subfreezing weather. We
didn’t want to drive in that. So,
reluctantly, we left a day earlier than planned and drove to Catalina State
Park near Tucson, where we will hunker down and wait out the cold.
And I mean COLD! I
have been coming to Arizona for many years around New Year’s and have never
experienced several nights in a row of sub zero weather. Look at those lows! In the low 20s.
We have a beautiful spot, close to some hiking trails we can
take when the days warm up to…….45. It
will be sunny, and our camper is set up for this. We will take all of our canned goods out of
the pickup so they don’t freeze, and put them somewhere in the camper for five
days. We are in a sunny spot so we can
keep our batteries charged from our solar panel (although the furnace fan draws
a lot of charge). It will be different,
but another adventure to add to a list that is already very long.
We’ll have fun, because we always have fun no matter
what. We’ll make it fun.
