Our last two days with Sebastian

We did it!  We got out for a hike.  A nice one--3 miles with good elevation.

Then Sebastian wanted to shop at some of the touristy places in Pine.  Just so happened that most were closed, but we got to wander around some of them.

One our way home we got to see a herd of elk about three houses up from us.

Dinner and watching another western--Hidalgo.  A total nonsense movie, but fun.

The next morning we packed up and left.  We had big plans for back in Mesa.  Sebastian was a big help, as always:

We had a nice drive home.  The 2-hour drive is so beautiful.  All the desert wildflowers are in full bloom this time of year and the majestic saguaros cover the hillsides!

We walked over to the Administration Building to retrieve a package that Kathy had sent us last fall.  Problem was that she sent it to my parents' old address in Leisure World, and the owners of the property were gone over the past few winters (we knew this because we frequently cycle past my parents' old home and yell "Hi Mom and Dad....Love you!")   Can't wait to tell Kathy.

Then we got take-out from Filiberto’s and started watching another of Sebastian's favorites--True Grit (the remake, which is far superior to the original).  After we were half done with the film, Sebastian made his final request (one we had already promised him):  He wanted to get ice cream from Dairy Queen.  What other use are grandparents for in life if not to spoil grandchildren?

Tomorrow he leaves.  As the old Graybill saying goes:  "We wish he had never come."

But we will see him and his brother and family in only a few short months up at our cabin for Grandpa’s 75th birthday celebration.  We can't wait.

Grandchildren are where it's at.  First you have children that bring you joy, and then they abandon you for their own lives (the ungrateful slobs......and just because we did the same things is NO excuse), and then you have the opportunity to do the most fun parts all over again with grandchildren.

This, folks, is living.
