Dancing through life together…our wedding anniversary

We are more in love than eleven years ago on the day we were married.  We celebrated each other every minute of this very special day.  We were never more than a few feet apart and did everything together….as we have done every day since our very first date, when we danced together and fell in love.

We rejoiced in the life that we have together by dancing and dancing and then dancing again, all throughout the day.

The best way to start a special day (and every day) is with cards, gifts, and breakfast in bed......and, for Dan, real bacon.

And then we danced.…

Dan knows how much I loves rocks, especially bright, shiny rocks with crystals like this one.

I gave this Leisure World jacket to Dan on our 7th wedding anniversary, the year that we bought Nuestra Casa, our Leisure World home.  Since we wear matching clothes, I had bought one for me too.  The zipper broke in Dan’s jacket last winter, so I told Dan that I would need to throw out his jacket.

When Dan was preoccupied building one of his model cars, I surreptitiously sewed a new zipper in his jacket. Boy, was he happily surprised when I regifted him with his (good as new) old Leisure World jacket!

After a nice walk around Pine, we spent the entire day on the deck of our cabin, dancing….

And eating a delightful fondue early dinner….

More dancing….

And more presents.  Look what Dan found…vintage green glasses of us riding Daisy, our tandem bicycle!

And he found a 40-year-old Tulip Pedal shirt, from the 1982 inaugural Tulip Pedal bicycle ride.  This is an amazing find!

We started riding the beautiful Tulip Pedal in 2012, and rode it every year until we moved to Arizona in 2019.  Each year we looked forward to April when we would cycle through the daffodil and tulip fields in the lovely farmlands around La Conner, Washington.  What incredible memories we have!

Between opening presents and sitting together, we danced….

In remembrance of all our days living on Whidbey Island and the thousands of miles that we cycled on our island roads, I had shirts made for us with a picture of us cycling together.

Dan’s shirt says, “Vicky and Dan                    My shirt says, “Dan and Vicky
                             Whidbey Island”                                         Whidbey Island”

Here is a picture of some of the presents and cards that we gave to each other.  Dan gave me the vintage brass couple riding a tandem bike on the right.  It looks like Dan and me on Daisy.  We have ridden Daisy over 9,000 miles in Leisure World.  We will find a special place at Nuestra Casa for this present

I found a 1937 Saturday Evening Post magazine with an Arrow Shirt advertisement of a dancing couple.  This is a rare find, as these dancing couples are in high demand.  It is especially special to us, because the couple is lovingly looking at each other as they dance together (many of the Arrow Shirt dancing couples are looking elsewhere and seem bored or distracted).

This is how we always dance….looking at each other with the love that we feel

This is why we ate an early dinner….our anniversary dessert--warm berry pie and lots of ice cream!

Our anniversary kiss….

And our final anniversary dance!

When we can no longer hike, and can no longer cycle, we will still turn up the music that we love, the music that touches our souls. And then we will take each other in our arms and dance, dance, and dance.

If we can no longer stand, we will still hold each other and dance.  When we die, we will be hiking, cycling, and dancing together in our lovely deserts, grasslands, and mountain forests.

And if you visit these places, when you feel a gentle breeze on your cheek, you will know that we have touched you as we float together in each other’s arms and dance.
