Today we took a 5-hour Kayak trip through the John Pennekamp State Park waters. The terrain was not as varied as was our canoe trip in the Everglades, but it was a lot of fun.
Some of the trails were open and easy to navigate, and some were so tight that we had to pull ourselves through them by grabbing ahold of the overhanging Mangrove branches.
One of the trails was named the Limbo Trail. Wonder why.
We traveled almost 10 miles, and were exhausted. As was true in the Everglades, once you get into your boat, you stay in your boat. There is no land to stop on. The only way to get out of the boat is to get into the water, so after 5 hours our backs were so stiff that we could hardly stand up.
But it was a lot of fun. We feel like we have seen the Florida Keys. We have seen the coral reefs, taken a kayak trip through the Mangrove forests, and sat on the beach. It is a lovely area, and we can understand why people like it so much.
