Gang grafitti in our wilderness areas

The damage to our wilderness attributable to social media is getting more serious.  There was an article in the New York Times this morning about it.  I wrote about it a few weeks ago.

We saw more evidence of this at Douglas Creek, near Wenatchee, WA this weekend.  We hiked down to the creek, and started along the trail next to it, when we came upon these:

They were all over the place.

One of the problems with the budget cuts we have been experiencing is that there is less money for monitoring our wilderness areas.  The damage being done is awful, and in many respects is irreversible.

A few high profile cases with serious penalties might curb the problem.   Facebook and other outlets like it create the mechanism for people to showcase their work.
