100 degrees…a perfect day to celebrate National Ice Cream Day!

Hottest day ever at our cabin—100 degrees!

100 degrees in Pine?  Heat advisory in Pine?

But this is cool, compared to the temperatures at Nuestra Casa, our home in Mesa.

This was my message to Dan when I saw the daytime AND nighttime temperatures in the Valley (aka the Phoenix metropolitan area).

Even in the Leisure World newspaper they are recommending going north of the valley to our cool mountain paradise.

This morning at our cabin it was 64 degrees—36 degrees cooler than in the Valley.  In fact, when we headed out for a bike ride in Pine at 6 am, we wore our STP (Seattle to Portland Bike Ride) jackets over our jerseys for the first hour, AND we were both still a little cold.

Last summer when we rode our tandem bike in the dark at 3 am (in an attempt to avoid the desert sun and heat), I felt nauseous and almost fainted from heat exhaustion.  So again, thank you, dear Danny, for our mountain cabin!

Did you know that today is National Ice Cream Day?  Neither did we, until we saw that the Arizona Trail Organization was celebrating today with ice cream.

It’s really official….

So we immediately decided that we simply must celebrate such an auspicious day!

What a perfect day to celebrate ice cream—on the hottest day that we’ve had at our cabin.

And a Creamsicle because this is the weekend of the STP (200 mile Seattle to Portland Bike Ride).  We cycled the STP seven times together with Jules from 2012 to 2018.  We loved riding the STP!

Every single year they handed out Creamsicles in Centralia, Washington—100 miles from Seattle, halfway to Portland.  We were tired, hot, and aching….and nothing could have tasted as good as a Creamsicle.

Here we are eating Creamsicles in Centralia, Washington in 2018, the last of the seven STP’s that we rode.

We wish all the STP cyclists a good ride this weekend and happy partying after you cross the finish line in Portland……we are with y’all in spirit!
