Today’s hike was something very different. Across the road from us is a huge something-or-other. It looks sort of like a wash, sort of like a dry lake, sort of like a huge area of land that simply sunk 100 feet below the surrounding area.
It looks to be about four miles long by ½ to 1 mile wide. Today we explored it from one end to the other. Again, no other footprints, except for mammals with four legs (the kind we prefer). Many different colors of dirt, and what appears to be a rock collector’s dream—beautiful rock after beautiful rock.
We are familiar with washes, having walked up and across dozens and dozens. In places, this area felt like a wash, except it was much too wide, and it did not seem to be a result of watershed from a mountain. High all around were hills 50-100 high.
Really unusual, and really beautiful.
