Our granddaughter, Hannah, who turned five a few months ago called us for the first time ever on our 14th wedding anniversary. The first thing we heard was, “Hi, this is Hannah.” She let us know that Mama and Papa took little Robert (who will be one tomorrow) and were gone to get roofing for the cabin that Owen is building.
We asked how she was able to call us. Her family has been staying with Aunt Rachelle, Uncle Ryan, and her cousins for “two churches.” This means two weeks in five-year-old language. Since Hannah had heard her cousin, Alden, talking to us a half hour before, she simply asked Alden to show her how to call Grandma and Grandpa.
The next thing she said (out of the blue) was, “Mama has a baby and it isn’t Robert. It might be a sister or a brother. It is much smaller than Robert. It is very tiny….only as big as my little fingernail. The baby doesn’t have a name yet, but if it’s a sister, it might be Margaret. Margaret is a very pretty name.”
Hannah, Vernon, and baby Robert:
This will be our 15th grandchild. And it was a delightful Anniversary present!
