We discovered an amazing ghost town….

……practically in our backyard.

We started our day with a family tradition….walking to the Leisure World Rendezvous Cafe for a pancake, eggs, and biscuits and gravy breakfast.

That is Grandpa, Sebastian, and I walked.  Soren, of course, skated.

Then we headed off to the Goldfield Mine Ghost Town—a 1890’s mining camp in the Superstition Mountains.  The amazing thing is that this super cool, old western mining town is only 20 minutes from Nuestra Casa, our Mesa home.

As you can see from our photos, this is a ghost town worth visiting!

This family was so taken with “cowboy” Sebastian that they asked him to be part of their family photo.  Sebastian happily obliged them.

Note that Sebastian is wearing the new gun and holster set that we got for him.  He has a gun on each hip.  We had to wait at least an hour for the Amazon driver to arrive with his new gun set before we could head out on our ghost town adventure.  It was well worth the wait to see his excitement and joy.

Soren was turning the crank on this old piece of mining machinery.  Unfortunately, it wouldn’t start.

A very crowded outhouse….come on guys, let Soren have some privacy!

Sebastian showed us how much his weight training has improved his strength.  It really has….this was an incredibly heavy solid iron pump!

Of course , Grandpa admired the antique tractor.  And I admired my husband and our two amazing grandsons!

When we arrived home, Amazon had delivered the next special gift from Grandma and Grandpa….a hockey net.

So Sebastian immediately set to work putting it together…..ALL BY HIMSELF!

Then the fun started—a hockey game between Sebastian and Soren….with only one hockey stick.  What do ingenuous boys do when they have only one stick? They improvise.  Didn’t you know, that a broken down broom works great as a hockey stick!

Grandpa and I were exhausted, so we headed off to  bed. Tomorrow we have another super day planned.  We are driving north into the mountains to the cowboy towns of Cottonwood and Jerome and the Gold King Mine and Ghost Town.  This ghost town is high in the mountains at the end of the road above Jerome.

We were there four years ago with Soren and Sebastian. It is so unique and special that they asked to return to the area.  We will be going back in history over 100 years!
