My Valentine lot and hiking…in the muck

We were so excited to be headed to our cabin in Pine.  It’s been much too long….almost five months.  And this time we got to be with Soren while we saw my Valentine lot for the VERY first time!

You can see our log cabin through the trees behind us.

There is the Mogollon Rim with some snow in the distance to the east.

There’s an awful lot of junk to clean up, but it is an absolutely beautiful piece of property.  We love it!

Dan knew how much I love the cabin, and how much I wanted this lot behind our lovely cabin.  Thank you, my dear Danny, for my Valentine’s Day Lot.  I am very happy!

Soren entertained himself with the snow as he waited for Grandma and Grandpa to get ready.  We were headed to go hiking a few miles away near Fossil Creek Road.

Our hike started off up a very steep road.  Due to the snow melting there was a little creek with small waterfalls for Soren to explore.

Our plan was to hike a few miles on a beautiful mesa at the top of the hill.  It was a great plan, but we discovered that the melted snow on the mesa had turned the mesa into a mucky swamp.

So we turned around, and called it a day with a soggy one hour hike.

The super short hike and having our shoes weighted down with at least three pounds of mud didn’t dampen Soren’s spirits even one little bit.  You can see his exuberant joy in this photo.

We ate dinner and ice cream in the loft (where Soren sleeps) and watched the Parent Trap together.  Dan and I hadn’t seen it since we were Soren’s age.  It was just as charming now as it was sixty-one years ago.  It was fun to share a bit of our past with our dear grandson.
