We are into another stage of summer on Whidbey Island. One noticeable difference is that the hummingbirds have left. Whereas we might see 10 or 12 at a time fighting to get to our feeders, we are now seeing one there only occasionally. And those we do see probably are the ones that are here year round (the Anna's). The Rufous Hummingbirds have flown south. These amazing tiny birds will fly 2000 miles to their winter home in the desert (sort of like we do!).
And some of the flowers have finished blooming, including the rhododendrons.
But others are just coming into bloom, including the day lilies. And the hosta are coming soon.

It is also the time of the year when we have an unknown (to us) type of wildflower that grows everywhere we let it. They produce a purple flower that stays around for several weeks.
We have let them grow everywhere they want around our home. We haven't planted any of them. The hummers like them too.

Probably our favorite plant is the hosta. It doesn't produce a fantastic flower, but the plant itself is magnificent. We have planted about 30 of them, along the front and back of our home.
