Biking with the windchill at 27 degrees

We waited on my knee for over a week since the Tulip Pedal ride.  Decided that we would see how it responded if we just spinned for several miles ("spinning" means not pushing hard, since pushing hard is when the knee joints can be most affected).

We spent last night with Jules, Jess, Ian and Adam in Seattle, and left Matthew's Beach for an 80-mile ride on the Burke-Gillman/Sammamish River/Marymoor Extension trails.  It's relatively flat (although the elevation gain, overall, was around 2500 feet for our 81 miles, which was kind of surprising).

The verdict on the knee?  Won't know until tomorrow.  Funny thing is, it feels fine riding, walking, and even climbing.  Only hurts when I walk down stairs. Don't grow old.  I know people don't like unsolicited advice, but I've just given you some.

Anyway, here is our car when we took off for Matthews Beach.  The temperature was 37 degrees.  We rode 12 mph.  Windchill = 27.  We stopped at Little Bear Creek park 10 miles after we started to try to warm our frozen fingers under the hand dryers.  Vicky kept saying that she hoped there were hand dryers there:  "I h-h-h-hope there are h-h-h-hand d-d-d-dryers there."  I wasn't so sure, but was really glad she was right.

The day started at miserable and warmed up to really cold.  But, we did it.  And had fun.
